COUNTY MEADOWS VOLUNTEERS

Country Meadows VolunteersFawn Area Elementary School and Country Meadows at
Leader Heights has once again paired up for Book Buddies, an inter-generational program that joins senior citizens with the second grade students in Mrs. Freese’s classroom.  During this visit, the residents presented Fawn Area with two bags of school supplies that will be shared among all students as the need arise
s.

The residents visit once a month during the scCountry Meadows Volunteershool year, participating in class activities which include reading books, coloring, painting, Play Doh sculpting, math games and sometimes just shared conversation. It’s great to have someone who will always listen!

During the year, the residents will get to know the students and the students will learn about the residents’ lives, including their former occupations and their hobbies.  Among the seniors who visited this time were a former violinist with the York Symphony Orchestra, a York College Professor, two nurses, a teacher, a bookkeeper, and a postmaster.  How exciting to have all of these professions and life experiences shared with our students!  The bonds that are created between the generations are invaluable to all involved.

KD FALL PLAY:  12 ANGRY JURORS

Kennard-Dale High School will be presenting 12 Angry Jurors, by Sherman L. Sergel, for their annual fall play.

On a hot summer day after a long trial, a jury must decide whether a 19-year-old man is guilty of murdering his father.  The jury votes 11-1 that the man is guilty of the crime, but the law requires a unanimous vote by all 12 jurors in order to pass judgment.  What begins as an open-and-shut case of murder soon becomes a detective story that presents a succession of clues creating doubt.  Tempers flare as a mini-drama of each of the jurors' prejudices and preconceptions about the trial, the accused, and each other comes to light.  It is a courtroom thriller that puts you on the edge of your seat while powerfully exploring what it means to live in a democracy.

Cast members include:  Ashlee Bowers, Maren Carr, Curtis Druck, Julieann Gawlik, Kaley Gilland, Sam Greaves, Kasey Karoll, Mackenzie Lengal, Tariq McGriff, Abby Mooneyhan, Viktoria Panayotova, Leah Pavey, Kayla Pijanowski, Alyssa Thompson, and Julia Wecker.

The production staff includes:  Ms. Barbara Peterson as director, Mr. James Craley as Assistant Director and Technical Director, and Mr. Chad Druck as Set Builder.  Molly Holz and Lilian Kreiss are the Production Stage Managers.

The show will take place on Friday, November 16 at 7:00 p.m. and Saturday, November 17 at 2:00 and 7:00 p.m.  Tickets will be $8.00 and can be purchased in the main office or at the door.  For more information, call the high school main office at 717-382-4871.
